Biosecurity & Visiting Policy

At Oramor Kittens, the health, safety and wellbeing of our kittens, their mothers and our wider cattery family will always come first.

We understand that choosing a Burmese or Siamese kitten is an important and exciting decision. Naturally, prospective families want confidence that their kitten has been raised with genuine care, experience and commitment. We welcome that, and we aim to provide as much reassurance as possible through our website, kitten updates, photographs, videos, testimonials and information about our breeding programme.

At the same time, raising healthy, well-socialised kittens involves a responsibility to protect them throughout their earliest and most vulnerable weeks of life. This is the reason for our visiting policy.

No Visits to the Cattery or Property Before Collection

To maintain the highest practical standards of hygiene and biosecurity, Oramor does not permit visits to the cattery or property before a kitten is ready to leave for their new home.

This applies whether you are:

• making an enquiry;

• waiting for a planned litter;

• choosing or reserving a kitten;

• awaiting your collection date; or

• have already placed a deposit.

We understand that some people may be accustomed to visiting kittens before collection, and we appreciate that this policy may feel different. Please be assured that it is not intended to be unfriendly, secretive or impersonal. It is a carefully considered part of how we protect the health and welfare of our kittens.

Our policy applies equally to everyone and cannot be varied for individual circumstances.

Why We Take Biosecurity So Seriously

Kittens have developing immune systems and can be particularly vulnerable to illness. Pregnant queens, newborn kittens and young litters all deserve the greatest possible protection from avoidable exposure to infection.

Even the most considerate visitor—someone who feels completely well and does not own a cat—may unknowingly carry infectious organisms or contaminants on their hands, clothing, footwear, bags, phones, vehicles or personal belongings.

Exposure can occur in many ordinary places, including:

• veterinary clinics;

• pet shops;

• animal shelters and rescues;

• friends’ or family members’ homes;

• farms and rural properties;

• public spaces where animals may have been present; and

• places where soil, animal material or other contaminants may be carried.

A person does not need to own a cat to create a possible biosecurity risk.

We have experienced cat flu at Oramor in the past, and that experience strengthened our commitment to rigorous and consistent biosecurity practices. We know firsthand that illness can be upsetting, disruptive and potentially serious in a breeding environment—especially for young kittens. Our policies are designed to reduce avoidable risk wherever possible.

While no environment can ever be guaranteed completely risk-free, we believe strongly in taking sensible, proactive steps to protect the animals in our care.

Your Kitten’s First Family Cuddles Are Saved for You

Once an Oramor kitten has been allocated and reserved for your family, we have a responsibility to protect that kitten until they are ready to join you.

This responsibility extends not only to your own kitten, but also to their mother, littermates and every other kitten or cat they may come into contact with during their time at Oramor.

By not allowing visitors to handle kittens before collection, we avoid kittens being passed from person to person or exposed to unnecessary outside contact during their early development. Instead, they remain in the familiar, carefully managed environment in which they were born and raised, surrounded by their mother, littermates and the people responsible for their daily care.

Your kitten will, of course, receive essential professional care when required, including veterinary attention and routine health care. However, we do not permit social visits or casual handling by prospective owners or other visitors before collection.

This approach helps protect your kitten you have chosen, while also honouring the trust you place with us when you reserve an Oramor kitten.

Following Your Kitten’s Journey

Although pre-collection visits are not possible, we enjoy sharing each litter’s progress through regular photographs, videos and updates on our website and social-media pages.

These updates allow families to follow the litter’s growth, development and milestones while their kitten is being carefully raised and prepared for their future home.

Please remember that kittens change very quickly during their first weeks and months.

Burmese kittens are not born with their mature eye colour. Their eye colour develops gradually over a number of months. Siamese kittens are born without their colour points and take up to 6 weeks to adequately determine their true colours. Coat colour, and overall appearance can and will change significantly as each kitten matures however rest assured, your kitten will progress to become a beautiful example of the breed you choose be it Burmese or Siamese. 

For this reason, early photographs cannot show exactly how a particular kitten will look as an adult. Our kitten showcase is often the best guide to the beautiful colour, type and overall appearance that Oramor Burmese and Siamese kittens develop as they mature.

The photographs and updates we publish are intended to show the litter’s overall health, growth and development. While we understand how exciting it is to watch your future kitten grow, taking, editing and sending individual progress photographs for every kitten is not always practical while kittens are young and changing rapidly.

Our time is best directed toward what matters most:

• hands-on rearing and gentle socialisation;

• maintaining a clean and carefully managed environment;

• feeding and monitoring every kitten;

• supporting mothers and young litters;

• observing each kitten’s health and development; and

• ensuring every kitten is content, confident and thriving.

We kindly ask prospective owners to enjoy the regular updates provided through our website and social-media pages. This allows our attention to remain focused where it belongs—on the kittens themselves.

Your Kitten Is Safely Reserved

Once your deposit has been received and a specific kitten has been allocated to you, that kitten is reserved for your family alone.

You can follow the litter’s progress with confidence, knowing your kitten is being raised with care and is safely held for their future home.

We do not regard a deposit as simply a transaction. It represents the trust a family has placed in us to care for their chosen kitten until the day they are ready to leave. We take that responsibility seriously.

Every decision we make during that time—including our no-visitor policy—is made with the welfare of your kitten and the wider Oramor family in mind.

Collection Day

When your kitten is old enough, healthy, appropriately prepared and ready to leave for their new home, collection day becomes the special moment you have been waiting for.

This is when you finally meet your beautiful Oramor kitten in person and welcome them into your arms as part of your family.

Until that time, they remain protected in the familiar environment in which they have been born, nurtured, socialised and cared for. We believe this gives every kitten the safest, healthiest and most loving beginning possible.

A Shared Commitment to High Standards

Our biosecurity requirements are a core part of the Oramor breeding program and a condition of purchasing an Oramor kitten.

We are always happy to answer respectful questions about our kittens, our breeding practices and the reasons behind our policies. We understand that our approach will not suit every person, and we respect that different families may have different expectations.

There are many avenues through which to find a companion cat, including shelters, rescues and breeders who may offer different visiting arrangements. We encourage every prospective owner to choose the breeder and approach that best suits their own circumstances and values.

Oramor is best suited to families who share our belief that the health, safety and welfare of kittens must come before convenience.

This policy is not about being impersonal. Quite the opposite—it is one of the clearest ways we demonstrate our commitment to every kitten entrusted to our care, and to every family who places their trust in us.
